Kahana valley is a very special and quiet place. Ancient Hawaiians thrived is this area due to the abundance of fresh water. A stream flows from the valley and into the ocean. Here you will find cool breezes and this is a favorite place in the hot summer months. Kahana Valley is located on the east shore and the gentle trade winds blow into the beach most of the year. On the beach is a well established iron wood grove that provides protective shade from the hot summer sun. The cool breaze along with the shady grove offer the coolest temperatures for hanging out on the beach in the sweltering summer months. The area also offers an ancient Hawaiian fish Pond. Early Hawaiians were the first in the world to establish Aqua Culture. The ruins of an ancient pond still exist in Kahana Valley for those wishing to explore. The gentle river that runs from the valley is another area for exploring and awesome views of the valley can be had from kayaking up stream. Bird watchers will enjoy the many birds that live in the valley. Most days, because of the trade winds, a small gentle wave breaks onto the sandy beach. This gentle wave is much like the typhoon lagoon type that you would find at a water park. This fun and gentle surf beach is excellent for kayak surfing as well as body surfing. Beginners and Children will have a blast playing in this wave. Turtles are common in kahana and can be found in the river and on the beach. The occasional monk seal can be found basking on the sands. In winter months Hump Back whales are present and can be seen from the kayaks. The reefs near the outside of the bay offer good snorkeling and reef fish live here. This is a cool breezy beach with lots to explore. For those wishing to get away from the bustle of Waikiki, Kahana Valley is a great place.
